Who we are and what we stand for
Fly Fishing is in our roots
The name “Courage” pays homage to owner and head guide, Josh Butler’s grandmother, Dallas Courage, who was raised in outport Newfoundland… a fierce self-proclaimed “tomboy” who grew up chasing local brook trout and Atlantic Salmon with a fly rod.
But here at Courage Fly & Guide Co., traditional fly fishing is not what we’re about…We’re about the pursuit of toothy, warm-water, predators that want to crush big meaty flies! We might have our grandparent’s work ethic, but this isn’t their kind of fly fishing!
Based in Ottawa, Ontario we’re proud of the fishing opportunities the Ottawa Valley has to offer. Ottawa is located at the confluence of the Ottawa, Rideau, and Gatineau Rivers and has many other smaller tributaries in close proximity. These rivers offer a plethora of under-utilized fly fishing opportunities containing many species that are apt to take (or crush) a fly – musky, pike, longnose gar, and smallmouth bass to name a few… many of which rarely or never see flies!
Whether you’re an experienced fly fisher looking for a trophy fish or just bought your first fly rod and want to learn the basic principles of the craft, Courage is here to make it happen. Let’s get it touch and come up with a plan that best suits you.
